Screen fatigue is real: how to protect your eyes at work

If your eyes feel dry, tired, or unfocused by mid-afternoon, you are not alone. Extended screen use reduces how often we blink, which dries out the eyes and causes fatigue.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule

Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This relaxes the focusing muscles inside the eye.

Adjust your screen position

Your screen should sit slightly below eye level and roughly an arm's length away, which reduces strain on the neck and eyes together.

Consider blue-light lenses if you are symptomatic

Evidence is mixed on blue light specifically, but many patients report real comfort improvements with a good anti-reflective coating.

If discomfort persists beyond simple adjustments, book an eye exam — it may be an early sign of a refractive change.
